Talk about a glow up! For his spring/summer 2020 TOMMYNOW show during London Fashion Week, Tommy Hilfiger presented a wide array of neon-colored oversized sportswear. These streetwear staples in the most eye-popping highlighter shades set the scene for the new vibe of his new collection. And this time, he also went sustainable too.
Glowing Mix of Americana References
Describing it as a mix of rock’n’roll style with East Coast preppiness, Hilfiger displayed his signature Americana style on the runway. The rock vibe mostly jumped out with the oversized sportswear. Strong silhouettes reigned supreme as large hoodies, logo sweatshirts, and monochrome tracksuits presented a relaxed edge.
A pair of neon-green oversized hoodies, for instance, stood out during the opening of the show. The looks showcased Hilfiger’s take on unisex style as well as his keen eye for bright hues. He even offset the neon with some military green and pastel pink to tone them down a bit.
The preppiness bit, on the other hand, came in strong with the Ivy League stripes and navy denim. Not stopping there, the designer even displayed fragments of the American flag amongst many pieces.
Collaborations with Famous Friends for Fall
The real headline for the collection, however, was the sustainable route the brand went for this season. Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton brought forth the idea in his fifth collaboration with the American brand.
“In the fashion industry, I think there’s a lot of work that can be done with all these brands. I want us to kind of, create a ripple effect,” he told Reuters after the show.
Apart from Hamilton, a slew of familiar names also helped Hilfiger complete this collection. Grammy-nominated singer H.E.R. also designed a few of the oversized pieces. Meanwhile, legendary supermodel Naomi Campbell opened the show in neon green and off-white nylon tracksuit.
