visvim Spring/Summer 2018 Collection: An Eclectic Mix of Materials

The visvim Spring/Summer 2018 collection tells stories through the use of various prints, patterns, and fabrics. A new dissertation takes an in-depth look at the materials.

visvim also had hand-sketched pieces for its SS2018 collection. The company presented a “Jumbo Hoodie” sketch. This “Jumbo Hoodie” features arabesque designs drawn across the entire hoodie.

The brand crafted the hoodie using a hand sketching method. Until now, Visvim still hasn’t replaced humans with machines in developing their products.

The dissertation looks at the patterns, prints, and fabrics used throughout the new release. It tells the story of where each one comes from and how it is produced.

An example is the bandana pattern on 100% silk fabric using a discharge printing method. This comes after dyeing with natural dyes. The pattern appears on silk shirts, vests, and coats in the collection.

Another is the wool yarn with vegetable dye that has a Chimayo pattern. Chimayo is a small town in New Mexico that passed down the method from generation to generation.

Other key highlights include the “Foliage” pattern based on a traditional Japanese sign of prosperity and good fortune. Check out the interesting read at visvim’s website.
