Off-White vs Phillip Lim: Battle Of The Bags

The Off-White vs Phillip Lim saga continues. The latter accuses designer Virgil Abloh of forgery.

The whole things began on Instagram where Diet Prada called out Off-White for copying Phillip Lim’s design. Lim designed the bag in question way back in 2015 and launched it the year after.

Apparently, the publication already called out Virgil Abloh after his September show. “Just changing the fabrication isn’t enough,” Diet Prada wrote. “Step it up!”

Curiosity Killed The Copy Cat

Phillip Lim also took to Instagram to applaud Diet Prada and to call Virgil Abloh out. “Whether in fashion, politics or culture in general- FACTS matter more then ever during the times we currently live in,” the designer wrote.

The plagiarized bag is the Alix handbag which launched in 2016. It most noteworthy design is the oversized paperclip hardware which took its inspiration from “romanticizing” everyday objects. Lim previously created a fanny pack version of the bag as well.

On the other hand, Off-White’s bag just recently dropped. It also had a giant paperclip on the front flap.

Virgil Abloh has not commented on the allegations. Stay tuned for updates on the issue.
