Kit Wan Studios SS19 Campaign Merges Fantasy And Technology

The Kit Wan Studios SS19 campaign combines manga fantasy and slick techwear. The collection takes inspiration from science fiction.

The brand’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, titled “Chapter 000 第零章: The Odyssey,” blurs the line between reality and fantasy. The campaign pairs illustrated manga characters with Kit Wan Studios’ angular techwear pieces.

When Reality And Fantasy Collide

The collection dips its hand into the world of science fiction and menswear tailoring. It reflects designer Kit Wan’s Asian heritage from his childhood in Hong Kong. It also shows his Scandinavian influences from recent years in Norway.

The pieces feature elements from manga, animation, gaming, and sci-fi cultures. The campaign uses a pastel color palette and flat, outlined, color block panels that provide a sense of two-dimensionality.

The angular cuts and technical hardware appear to be based on mobile suits of Japanese Mecha mangas such as “Gundam” and “Evangelion,” among others. Moreover, it also has a sophisticated take on performance silhouettes to create a unique brand identity.

Meanwhile, here’s XLARGE’s “Dragon Ball Z” collection in pastel colors as well. Kid Trunks, Kid Buu, and Bulma are the key characters featured in the capsule. Each of the characters highlight recreations of XLARGE’s established logos.
