Alexander Wang’s COLLECTION 1 Runway Show

Alexander Wang’s COLLECTION 1 and its latest runway show was on the rooftop of Manhattan’s Pier 19. It created a perfect backdrop for the range’s themes: the designer’s American Dream and immigrant roots.

Alexander Wang previously collaborated with Adidas Originals for a Spring/Summer 2018 collection. The capsule is a six-piece range that showcases sportswear essentials. The designer previously launched his Season 2 collaboration with the brand in July last year.

The six-piece SS18 capsule includes a tracksuit, skirt, and shorts. Each features the subverted Trefoil logo.

The designer transformed sleeves as an accent. He sewed them on to the waist of the track jacket and shorts alike to create a cozy profile.

This is America

COLLECTION 1’s runway show happened in a huge square space, against a heavy metal soundtrack. The assortment portrayed a sartorial postcard of archetype America.

The range showcases classic early-naughts pop diva garments. These are cropped tops, low-rider jeans, slinky chainmail bibs, and bandanas.

There’s also a collaborative Adidas sneaker inspired by the Crazy 97 EQT Elevation tied in the popular chunky footwear trend. Other accessories include duo-chrome sunglasses and patriotic face paint.

Moreover, throwback styles include oversized jersey tops, ripped denim/leather jackets, daisy duke shorts and blinged-out belt buckles. Meanwhile, bolo ties, paisley prints and kung-fu jackets worn with street staples are also part of the collection.
